2021: What I Know To Be True

Have you ever thought, “If only I could have a magic crystal ball that would tell me what 2021 has in store?”  For $360 and $4.98 in shipping, you can purchase on Amazon your very own Red Crystal Ball with Stand.  But don’t!  I believe that it would be a total waste of your money.  I think you would be as productive buying the Mattel 30188 Magic 8 Ball Fortune Telling Teller on Amazon for $14.75 and free shipping.  It’s really simple.  Ask your question, shake the magic 8 ball, and read the answer!  If only it were so easy.

Let’s be honest; there are many things we can’t know as we start off the year 2021.  Here are just a few:

  1. Will the Green Bay Packers win the Superbowl? 🙂
  2. Will my pancreas stop giving me problems?
  3. Will the school give your child what they need in your next IEP meeting?
  4. Will we ever be comfortable going to a movie theater, football game, or live concert?
  5. Will the State acknowledge the need for a wheelchair ramp and pay for it?
  6. Will someone end up in the hospital again?

But does that mean there is nothing we can know for sure?  As I stand on the doorstep of a new year, I am holding onto three truths that allow me to live with the uncertainty of the next twelve months.  These truths are unashamedly gleaned from my faith as a Christian.  Allow me to share them with you.

3 Things I Know To Be True

God loves us!  All I have to do is look at Jesus, and I know this to be true.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

I don’t have to be anxious or worry about tomorrow and what it brings.  Today is enough!

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Matthew 6:25-27

I have been called to love and serve others, putting them before myself.  It is my joy and privilege to pass on to others what so many gave to me.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.  Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.  Philippians 2:3,4

He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.  2 Corinthians 1:4

May God bless us all and remind us as we start 2021 that we are not alone and that we are loved not only by our community but also by God!
