Rob and Dana Bisnett
How long have you been connected with David’s Refuge?
Ten years I think?
Please explain any diagnosis your child has, and you have experience with.
We have four children, two have special needs: Autism and Spina Bifida (with pulmonary and orthopedic anomalies) . We have experience with lengthy hospital stays, having private duty (Medicaid) nursing in our home for the past 15yrs, and disability advocacy. Dana is a self-direction broker for OPWDD.
What is your favorite part of being a host?
Rob and I love sharing resources that have helped us on our journey. We love meeting new people and laughing together as we realize that we are all in this big special needs parenting boat together. We love hearing other couples stories and seeing them relax more as the weekend goes on. The mission of David’s Refuge is near and dear to us.
What is something you want your guests to know about you?
We would like guests to know that we have been happily married for 22 years and have truly been through thick and thin. We love to travel, especially cruises, and we’re definitely “foodies”. Weekly date nights are a must!
What is a piece of advice you have found invaluable as a family with experience in special needs or a medically fragile diagnosis?
My grandfather and my father used to say, “this too shall pass” and I think of that on the really hard days.
Which partner location is your favorite and why?
Our favorite locations are the small B&B’s as they provide a cozier environment for conversations.
A genie grants you the ability to have infinite amount of one item. What is it?
Patience (Dana) and Time (Rob)
What book changed your life?
Too many to list! I love to read (Dana).
What is a question you wish people would ask you less?
We can’t think of one.
